Adjust reader-power mix with store-level demand data, using customer demographics as a starting hypothesis rather than a substitute for actual sell-through.
Use demographics carefully
Customer age profile can influence likely reader demand, but two stores with similar demographics can still produce different power mixes because of traffic, shopping mission, pricing, and local habits.
Start with a reasonable range
Open with enough breadth to serve the expected customer base, then track which powers sell, stock out, and reorder.
What to review
- power-level unit sales
- stockout frequency
- time between reorders
- customer requests for missing powers
- inventory aging by power
Change depth before deleting breadth
A slower power may still deserve one or two positions to keep the assortment useful. Reduce duplicate depth first, then remove a power only when repeated evidence supports the decision.
Use local history over time
After several service cycles, the store's own power demand should carry more weight than the original demographic assumption.
Over-the-counter readers are not a substitute for professional eye care or prescribed lenses.
