How to Use Product Adjacencies to Make Eyewear Feel Relevant

Eyewear feels more relevant when the display is placed near products or customer missions that explain why readers or sunglasses belong there. The best adjacency is not always the category with the highest traffic.

Match the adjacency to the need

  • Pharmacy and wellness: readers near health, personal care, or front-end convenience.
  • Travel and hospitality: readers and sunglasses near guest essentials and travel accessories.
  • Outdoor retail: sunglasses near sun, work, beach, boating, or activity products.
  • Boutiques and gift shops: eyewear near accessories, mirrors, or fashion browsing.

Use adjacency to reduce explanation

A strong placement lets the shopper understand the category immediately. If the display feels unrelated to the surrounding merchandise, the store has to work harder with signage or staff explanation.

Do not sacrifice browsing space

A perfect thematic adjacency can still be poor if the location is too narrow, dark, or congested. Relevance and usability have to work together.

Test the assumption

Compare sales and customer interaction before and after a meaningful placement change. Change one major variable at a time so the result can be interpreted.
