How to Evaluate Lighting at a Proposed Display Location

Good eyewear lighting should make frame color, face fit, reader-power labels, and mirror reflections easy to evaluate without glare or deep shadows. A high-traffic location with poor lighting can still be a weak display location.

Check the light at customer eye level

Stand where the shopper will stand and look at the fixture and mirror, not just the ceiling. Ask whether the face is evenly lit and whether labels can be read without leaning closer.

Watch for four problems

  • Backlighting: bright windows behind the mirror can make the face look dark.
  • Glare: direct overhead or display lighting can reflect off lenses and packaging.
  • Color distortion: weak or uneven light can make frame colors harder to judge.
  • Shadow: a dim corner can reduce try-on confidence even when the fixture is visible.

Test at different times

Natural light can change a location dramatically during the day. Review morning, afternoon, and evening conditions when windows or exterior doors affect the area.

Use lighting as part of placement decisions

If the location is strong in every other way but lighting is poor, compare the cost and practicality of improving the light with moving the fixture elsewhere.
