How to Evaluate an Eyewear Supplier for Full-Service Hotels

Full-service hotels should evaluate an eyewear supplier on the complete operating program, not only frame price. The supplier should be able to explain the assortment, display capacity, guest use cases, opening inventory, replenishment, service, credits, and who supports the account after installation.

Why the supplier decision matters

Hotel demand changes with occupancy, conferences, destination activity, and guest convenience needs. A supplier that cannot adapt to those conditions can leave the property with a visually acceptable rack that is difficult to maintain or poorly matched to guests.

Questions to ask before buying

  • Assortment: Why are these reader powers, sunglass styles, and quantities recommended?
  • Display: What capacity fits the usable space and browsing clearance?
  • Economics: What is the complete opening commitment, including merchandise, freight, setup, and terms?
  • Replenishment: What are reorder minimums, lead times, and service expectations?
  • Support: Who corrects power gaps, slow duplication, damage, or credit issues?
  • Continuity: Can the supplier maintain core products and adapt the mix after the first reorder?

Red flags

  • an unexplained equal-quantity power mix
  • a display recommendation based only on available floor space
  • vague freight, damage, return, or credit terms
  • no named account owner after the opening order
  • no process for using guest requests and reorders to improve the assortment

How to compare proposals

Use one scorecard for product fit, opening cash, landed cost, replenishment, service, reporting, and exit terms. The lowest unit cost is not necessarily the lowest operating cost if the program creates dead inventory or requires repeated staff intervention.

What good support looks like

A strong supplier states which recommendations are supplier-specific examples and which are general operating principles. The supplier should also help the property distinguish a demand problem from a placement, availability, or replenishment problem before the category is removed.

This is buyer guidance based on Major Frames' wholesale eyewear experience. Over-the-counter readers are not a substitute for professional eye care.
