Gift shops should size eyewear backstock from actual style and reader-power demand, supplier lead time, seasonal traffic, and the amount of reserve inventory the store can keep organized.
Backstock should refill the winners
The selling display may need variety. The backstock layer should be more selective. Deepen styles and powers that repeatedly move and keep slow items shallow.
How to size the refill layer
- cover expected sales until the next supplier delivery
- protect core reader powers
- deepen proven accessory styles
- add temporary depth before holidays, tourism peaks, or major events
Do not hide inventory
Backstock should be labeled and easy to reach. A gift shop can technically own plenty of eyewear while the customer-facing display still looks picked over if refill inventory is not being used.
Adjust after seasonal peaks
Review what remained after the holiday or tourism period. Carry proven evergreen styles forward and reduce unnecessary depth behind slow seasonal inventory.
Backstock checklist
- Which styles and powers reorder?
- What seasonal peak is next?
- How long is lead time?
- Where is backstock stored?
- What should not be duplicated?
