Longer dwell time does not automatically mean higher eyewear sales. It is useful only when customers are productively comparing frames, powers, and fit. Long browsing caused by confusion, poor organization, or hard-to-find information can reduce conversion.
Productive dwell time
Customers may spend more time because they are trying multiple frames, using a mirror, comparing colors, or checking reader powers. That can be a positive sign when the path to purchase remains clear.
Unproductive dwell time
- power labels are hard to understand
- frames are misplaced
- mirror access is poor
- the display is too crowded
- pricing is unclear
- staff intervention is required for basic shopping
Measure behavior with outcomes
Do not evaluate dwell time alone. Compare it with conversion, units sold, stockouts, customer questions, and whether the fixture needs frequent reorganization.
Practical goal
Create enough time and space for confident comparison while removing unnecessary friction. The best display does not rush the shopper, but it also does not make a simple purchase feel complicated.
