Museum stores should use countertop formats for a small curated visitor-essential offer and floor displays only when the institution has enough demand and retail space to support a fuller category.
Countertop works when
- curated retail space is limited
- eyewear is a small visitor convenience category
- the institution wants a discreet test
Floor works when
- reader powers need meaningful breadth
- outdoor campus or destination traffic supports sunglasses
- the store has a dedicated browseable area
- the fixture can remain visually consistent with the institution
Curation limits capacity
More product is not automatically better in a museum store. The format must preserve the quality of the retail environment.
