Resorts should pilot eyewear in one defined retail location with a documented assortment, a review period that captures normal and peak guest activity, and clear expansion rules. The test should show which guest needs are repeatable and which are driven by a specific season or amenity.
What the pilot must answer
- Should sunglasses, readers, or both lead?
- Which resort activities create the most demand?
- Does the retail placement provide enough visibility and try-on space?
- Can the property replenish before occupancy or activity peaks?
Set the pilot up so the result is usable
Document the opening assortment, fixture size, placement, backstock, and launch date. Choose a test period that captures typical resort traffic as well as a meaningful seasonal or event period when possible.
Measure more than sales
- sell-through by category
- reader-power stockouts
- sunglass style movement
- reorder frequency
- inventory age
- performance by season or amenity
Decide the expansion rule before launch
Define what would justify more capacity, deeper inventory, or another retail point. A compact program may be the correct permanent answer even when the pilot succeeds.
After the pilot
Use the first reorder to align the mix with actual guest activity. The goal is a repeatable seasonal plan rather than a one-time assortment.
